Chess first of all teaches you to be objective.

How do you manage to make your students learn? Because I have a friend who is an English-Spanish major, and, well, I don't see her becoming a specialist any lifetime soon
I am very skeptical when it comes to Moldovan students' vocabulary. Sometimes I think they operate on pure magic
Skeptical is the quite the right attitude, y'know. They do, they do.
How do you manage to make your students learn?
Dunno. I talk a lot, tell them a lot about how real it is to earn money knowing a language pretty well here, I try to motivate, explain, and such, tell them a zillion things they're gonna need in real life and when they get to work, eventually. And then those who are not hopeless realize they need to learn. That's like 1/4 of them, at best.

Is she a student in MD? Well, as I said, 3/4s of them are hopeless: they are in foreign lges by mistake, they can't learn, they don't wanna learn, or else. A thousand reasons not to be good. And not to want to make something decent out of themselves. Gah.
To be honest, I was kind of hoping that one day your paths will cross. She is in need of a firm hand. I'd say she's also in a need of a person who speaks the language decently, but I don't know enough about her professors to just make the assumption that they suck.
From my ULIM experience, professors can suck xD
sorry for no capitalization in my writing, writing from my cell.
Needless to say, I am very impressed with the promptness of your answer and willingness to help. So very impressed!
*crawls under bed* I basically am slow, yeah. Sorry, rly.
But I am willing to help, because people need to be helped if it is possible at all.
Yet, smth tells me that there's a 80% probability your friend is not going to be willing to speak with a smart person for a change. Especially if she's keen on avoiding knowledge.
But naaamez! I wantz namesss!
Why do you think you are slow? That wasn't sarcasm! I AM actually very impressed!
Why do I think I might know her, why?
... because you most likely have 3/4 of those like her - lovely, lively, and lazy as fuck.
I promise you not to tell her you gave me her name. I know her perfectly well, heh. Second year, 282L group, a HELL of a lazy ass group. Ana was one of the tiny sparkles of hope down there, but yes, she is a HUGE lazy ass. She is fond of anime and we even exchanged a couple of grins referring to slash/yaoi stuff. Aww, didn't I tell you I felt I knew her.
The problem is that she is in an extremely slow, unmotivated, don't-give-the-slightest-fuck group. But I saw her work pretty well when she did come to my lexicology/stylistics seminars. Better than 9/10 of the group. But yeah, she does need work.
Well, perhaps you might try and insist, and persuade her to talk to me. Though, knowing that you refer to me, she might not. Don't know really. I know how "much" their group likes me. They (+a good deal of the entire 2nd year) are sure I am a self-righteous, evil bitch, whose only pleasure is to make them work and suffer. And they are so right about everything, except the suffering thing.
But she's not yet hopeless, that I can see.
Thanks for telling me. Again, perhaps she'll be smart enough to listen to you.
Why do you think you are slow? That wasn't sarcasm! I AM actually very impressed!
Oh, I just know that I am a huge procrastinator and horrible time manager, that's why I readily confess that I am slow quite often. But thank you for that NOT being sarcasm. Then that makes me really glad!
